Fox Morning Show pranks co-host with iPad licking app

On the surface, this is an amusing April Fools gag on a Fox morning news show in San Diego with a cute reaction and blah blah blah – but my deeper interest is how awesome and casual Fox morning shows in San Diego are. We have Good Day LA I guess, which has the same light and bouncy air to it but still – I was more impressed by the anchor smoothly sniffing his phone and saying “ya dude” than with the actual content. An extra nice touch: The Fox 5 logo turning into Fox 69 during the segment.

What the hell is Glee?

to someone who has never seen Glee, we have no way of knowing wtf it even is… there’s songs, but there’s some kind of competition? celebrity guests? but it’s a multi-camera scripted show? so wtf. is it a sitcom musical, a MadTV with songs or an American Idol competition type fake reality show?

I’d Google or Hulu it i…f I really cared but I kinda like the suspense of never quite knowing.

Could “Back To You” be brought back… to you?

The recently canceled sitcom, Back To You could possibly switch to CBS who first eyed the series before Fox snagged it. So why not encourage this? Fox has a terrible record of canceling shows that are just starting to gain an audience and make the switch from cult following to mainstream popularity anyway.

Fox’s fall schedule is set to be announced Thursday in New York. The network declined comment on the fate of “Back to You.”

Grammer said he spoke with Fox executives Peter Liguori and Kevin Reilly on Saturday and that they didn’t fully explain the decision. He speculated that their interest in the show had “waned” so they were unwilling to be patient with it.

“I’m not really sure what the real reasoning is. I think they ended up with a show that was going to be a great show. It was a great show,” he said.

An online petition campaign is afoot to save the show and Grammer and his wife, Camille, sent an e-mail note to friends inviting them to jump aboard. Grammer said he’s “nursing a tiny hope” that CBS might pick up the show after talking with CBS CEO Leslie Moonves.

“I spoke with Les the other day and he was not completely discouraging,” Grammer said, wryly.

Grammer and his wife e-mailed friends that if they wished to voice support for the show to CBS, “you won’t hear us complaining.”

Here’s part of one episode where they sent a dude to Anthrocon, which, God help us all… is a real thing where people who like to dress up as animals get together for non-sexual…um… meetings I guess:

And his coverage of him actually there is even better:

C’mon now. You’re telling me this is less worthy than anything else currently running in the same or surrounding time slots on any of the main networks?

I say give Back To You some after-the-fact support and contact FOX to express disappointment and more importantly, contact CBS to express encouragement.

Back to You won’t be back on Fox

Despite having better ratings than its comedy companion ‘Til Death, the series was not renewed by the network on May 9, 2008, while ‘Til Death was renewed. The show is being shopped to other networks. Ironically, CBS was initially interested in the series before it landed at FOX. Heaton is the former star of CBS’ Everybody Loves Raymond, while CBS several years ago tried to get Grammer to star in a spinoff of Frasier. The network is hoping to open a new night of comedy beyond its Monday lineup, and a Grammer-Heaton project could be a solid anchor for such an extension. On May 27, 2008, it was announced that Kelsey Grammer had signed on to play the lead in a new ABC sitcom Roman’s Empire.

And what’s up with THIS crap? Sounds like a dick move on Fox’s part, no? Check this out:

Kelsey Grammer said Tuesday that Fox is dropping his sitcom “Back to You,” calling the decision a surprise and a shame. “They have let it go,” Grammer told The Associated Press. “We were told all this time we were in good shape and we were coming back.”

On Friday, Grammer taped an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show promoting the series. When the veteran sitcom star (“Cheers,” “Frasier”) arrived home later that evening he received a call telling him that the show was canceled.

Geeeeez. That’s a headline in and of itself.

Exit question: is it hypocritical of me to be sorry a show was canceled that I never supported myself by watching a single episode? Maybe I’m just subconsciously pouty over it cuz I had a possible shot at getting on screen in an episode or more. :/
