Massachusetts Woman Faces Three Years in Prison for Switching Flintstones Vitamins with Candy

A Woburn woman has admitted she switched Flintstones vitamins with candy in stores, saying she was angry that vitamins she bought had been tampered with.

Denise Shannon told federal investigators she substituted the chewable vitamins with red-hot candy, jelly beans, M&Ms and gumballs eight to 10 times in 2004 and 2005 at various supermarkets in the Woburn area.

According to a plea agreement, the 38-year-old Shannon said she did it because she felt “violated” after she bought Flintstones vitamins that were tampered with in 2004.

Shannon was indicted on federal charges of tainting consumer products with intent to cause serious injury to a business.

Her plea agreement has not yet been accepted by a judge. She faces up to three years in prison.

Way to fight accusations of bias or evidence that you’re in the tank for the candidate you’re interviewing by saying “I’m not going to ask you any questions on this tough and uncomfortable subject and I want you to know this before we start the interview. Is that okay sir?”. Jesus…
Obama handled it with exactly the kind of grace he should have. He didn’t laugh or do anything obnoxious like nod vigorously – he just says “fair enough” and goes on – even though “fair enough” is something you usually say when someone contradicts or playfully combats something you said, not gives you a present like this. but whatever.

The reverend Wright issue continues to poll as a topic that voters actually DO care about a great deal, so the anchor (John Roberts) was purely injecting his own “I’m sick of this” feelings and claiming it was a public sentiment. Which is… odd, since it coincides with the talking point that official Obama surrogates are going on the cable news shows saying. hmm.

My favorite part though? The fact that they labeled this segment “Obama Unfiltered”.

Tom Hanks endorses Obama

Tom Hanks, in this video shows how to do it, if you MUST and only if you absolutely MUST endorse a presidential candidate as a celebrity: with humility, self deprecating humor, candor, and sincerity not wild eyed passion.

The only misstep I didn’t care for was his line about the country considering people of his skin color only 3/5ths of a human. Phrasing it that way is to imply that ALL people of color had that worth legally atattched to them. I’ve heard others in the media distort the history on this (none intentionally I believe) and its important to correct that the United States never said that all black people were 3 fifths of a human being. That designation was applied only to slaves, and even in 1776, not all people in America with dark skin were slaves. Michael Medved, who is a big American History afficionado (as is Tom Hanks) made an interesting point about this the other day when he said the 3 fifths designation was actually more than anti-slavery activists at the time wanted because its only purpose was Congressional designation. So in other words, if you hated slavery then you wanted slaves to be counted as 0% of a person because they weren’t allowed to vote. Counting them as 3 fifths of a person only served to seat more congressmen.

Although it’s disappointing that Hanks’ endorsement comes down to it being all about race (isn’t Obama supposed to be the ultimate non-divider?), the delivery is pleasant and not at all obnoxious, which is something other politically active celebrities could take a cue from.

Exit question: was it the best idea to hand over the subliminal metaphor of Obama’s possible campaign result in that sinking ship picture over his shoulder?

Ex bf blows whistle on 22 year old girl banging 14 year old Thornton boy. Redeye and TMZ add flavor to story

TMZ reports that Willie Thornton, age 14, was “dating” a 22-year-old woman (where does a 14 year old take a 22 year old on a date? please) and they did the naaasty. They say her ex-boyfriend became jealous and called the LAPD and informed them that his former GF was having sex with a minor.

Oh ya, and they included a picture of boy Thornton. from 4 years ago. when he was 10 years old…
