Woman Burns Down Friend’s House For Defriending Her on Facebook

The Des Moins Register reports that a 30 year old woman in Des Moins has been charged with arson after she set her friends house ablaze at 1am while the friend was sleeping in it.

They managed to escape as the siding on their house began to melt from the heat of the fire in the detached garage.

The roof of the garage collapsed on cars stored in the garage. Other stored property also was lost in the blaze.

Officers asked Jim Rasmussen if anyone would want to harm him of his family and he provided the name Jennifer “Jen” Harris. He said Harris was a long-time friend of his wife but they were now involved in a dispute.

A police report says that when an officer asked Nikki Rasmussen about Jen Harris, Rasmussen said “… the two are no longer friends due to a dispute over Facebook. According to Nikki, Jen is angry with her because she ended their friendship on Facebook.”

The report goes on to mention a “fake Facebook account.” But Police Detective Jack Kamerick said only that it involved “Facebook issues and kept building and building and text messages that were sent.”

“Things were posted on Facebook,” Kamerick said. “Jen asked Nikki to create an event on Facebook for a party. Nikki did that. As the date for the party approached “there were a lot of ‘declines,’ on Facebook, the detective said. It was looking like the party might be a bust. The dispute apparently blossomed. So when the garage went up in flames, Harris became the first name that occurred to the victims.

Hacks coming soon:

Myspace Tom on Facebook

Myspace Tom is on Facebook. Users finding the same picture from 2004 where he is in front of a whiteboard asked why he is still using that as his online representation. Well duh… but in case “well duh” isn’t good enough for you, he explains on Facebook as follows:

I suppose I will turn this into a FAQ of sorts. FAQ #1: Many have asked why I’ve used the same picture for 8 years. The answer is simple: because you’ll recognize it. Lots of people have subscribed to me in the last 10 hours since posting. Why? Because they saw my photo. Who knows “Tom Anderson”? My name is pretty generic. Most people don’t even know what I look like; the MySpace photo is recognizable. Here’s a new photo, taken a few weeks ago.

And why is he even ON Facebook? Isn’t it Myspace’s mortal enemy? Tom explains:

People seem very confused why I’m on Facebook. I’ve had a profile since 2005 and a “fan page” since 2009. FB just created a feature where you can “subscribe” to profiles. They asked me if I wanted to convert my “page” into a simpler profile. Complicated? I suppose. Why am I not on MySpace? Because, I left the company in early 2009, and like most of you, I don’t like using it anymore.. not a fan of what the new folks have done with MySpace.

But does he view Facebook as a rival that he only joined begrudgingly? Anderson says, no way. He loves it.

FAQ #2: People often ask me what I think of Facebook? Put simply, I love it. Facebook has accomplished what I wanted to accomplish when I started MySpace–that “everyone” would be online, and “everything” online would get more fun & useful because its social. To me, Facebook just keeps getting better & better. Now when they remove that 500 character limit on posting (rumored this week), I’ll be able to say much, much more.

Now you can Facebook while you Facebook

FINALLY:

facebook_ticker_highlight

Called the ‘Ticker’ by internal Facebook employees, the social networking company is slowly allowing more users to view a real-time feed of friend actions to the right of the main Facebook News Feed. This unfiltered flow of news shows actions such as comments, like clicks, new friend connections, photo uploads and status updates that friends are creating on mutual friend pages as well as non-friend pages. It’s basically a feed of every single interaction that a user does on Facebook.

The Ticker is designed to replace the Most Recent filter on the Facebook News Feed, which is absent from the new design. Users will only have the Top News option to view on the wall and have to rely on the Facebook algorithm to dictate the most interesting stories. The algorithm watches how many times you visit a friend’s page as well as the number of comments and likes you make about the friend. When a user clicks on a story in the Ticker, it appears in the main feed in the middle of the page and the user can make a comment.

Thanks Facebook!!!!1

Google Plus Dilema

You can move your Facebook friends into Google+..but…do you really want to?

Its almost a week after the launch of new Google Social Network, Google+ (Google Plus) and its increasing user rate is very high. But Google+ still doesn’t have the functionality for users to bring friends directly from Facebook to Google+ and every user on Google+ would surely want their Facebook friends to use Google+.

Untill now, Google hasn’t been fully launched to all the users freely but you can join if get invites from Google+ users.

But if you are already into Google+, then there is a way to bring your Facebook friends contacts to your Google+ account and give them invites. Facebook Friend Exporter is an extension forChrome which gives the easiest method of exchanging user contacts from one service to another.

It isn’t ‘what happened’, but what you can prove happened. Casey Anthony is a convicted liar and she has four charges of ‘misleading law enforcement’ to prove it. -Nick Lashbrook

God bless Caylee. Casey Anthony, hell awaits. Nobody puts duct tape on their daughter’s mouth after she has “accidentally” drowned in the pool. Nobody in their right damned mind hides the fact that her daughter has died if it was an “accident.” This judicial system is just sick. I am disgusted beyond belief. -Chelsea Reneé Gregg

Who Owns Facebook

China wants a piece of the Facebook pie. A piece “that matters“:

The cocky Chinese are not the only parties deluding themselves.  Zuckerberg, in the words of one reporter, “believes that Facebook can be an agent of change in China, as it has been in countries such as Egypt and Tunisia.”  After the disastrous China experiences of Yahoo and Google and the troubled history of Microsoft there—not to mention Beijing’s recent tirade against foreign social media—the Facebook founder appears both arrogant and naïve.

Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg is reportedly “wary about the compromises Facebook would have to make to do business there.”  If she loses her argument with Zuckerberg and Facebook enters China, the company will eventually be subject to demands to censor its sites, those both inside and outside China.  That’s apparently why the Chinese want to own a big stake in Facebook.  They are, in short, looking for control in the long run.  No other explanation is consistent with the Party’s other media and “educational” initiatives.

Of course, a Beijing-influenced Facebook will be hit by even more bad publicity—and inevitably defections.  Other social networking sites will spring up to capture fleeing users.  The genius of America is that its open and broad market eventually punishes the arrogant and the naïve by allowing choice.

So who says MySpace is dead?  Perhaps Rupert Murdoch sold it too soon.

The closest thing to an accurate representation

Stakeholders shown in this pie chart:

  • Facebook staff: 30%
  • Co-founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg: 24%
  • Co-founder Dustin Moskovitz: 6%
  • Co-founder Eduardo Saverin: 5%
  • Napster’s Sean Parker, Founding President of Facebook: 4%
  • Digital Sky Technologies, a Russian investment firm: ~10%
  • Goldman Sachs: ~0.8%
  • Goldman Sachs’ clients: ~3%
  • Greylock Partners, a venture capital firm: ~1.5%
  • Meritech Capital Partners: ~1.5%
  • Peter Thiel, PayPal co-founder and Clarium Capital president: ~3%
  • Elevation Partners (that’s U2?s Bono among others): ~1.5%
  • Other investors: ~9.7%

I know Microsoft owns some too though, so this chart is incomplete. Upon Googling I can report that  Microsoft has a 1.6% stake and the chart is also missing Hong Kong billionaire Li-Ka Shing’s 0.8%, TriplePoint Capital (though as a debt provider they own nothing), and Accel Partners’ investment which I don’t have a number for.

Bin Laden Death Photo

Facebook interaction went like this. Pasting instead of rehashing the same thoughts:

Jared: they got video of this entire operation. I wonder when it’ll come out. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of his own bodyguards shot him. Cause there were orders that we heard about years ago about the way he operates that said if forces were to ever get close, his bodyguards would execute him. So I really don’t believe we had some navy seals just drop in on the house & shoot him in the head.

Me: i think the most depressing news out of this is that he was alive for the past 10 years. idk bout the raid details authenticity. you hear about the guy in Pakistan who tweeted the helicopter crash a day ago? feeding conspiracy theories that this isnt week-old news and just happened shortly before it was announced, which.. sounds a lot more logical. but idk. hope they hurry and release video and dead body pics soon – not only so i have something to masturbate to, but also to help dissolve the Elvis effect thats gonna inevitably happen since he’s already been “buried at sea”. 3 dudes probably already think they saw him at 7-eleven.

Sidenote: facebook immediately threw up recommendations for 7-eleven and Elvis…
